Tulsa Forces Overtime but Slips to UTEP

The Golden Hurricane put together a big second half to force OT, but eventually fell to the Miners.

TULSA, Oklahoma—The Tulsa women’s basketball team fell to UTEP in an exciting 65-62 overtime battle on senior night inside the Donald W. Reynolds Center.

Before the game, Tulsa honored its four Golden Hurricane seniors: Kara Vaughan, Tatum Beer, Kensey Hall and Jermaine Kermis.

Thursday, Vaughan returned to the court for the senior night ceremonies after suffering a foot injury prior to conference play.

The first four minutes of play featured six lead changes until UTEP went on a 12-2 run to take control of the reminder of the half. The Miners led 33-25 at halftime.

In the second half, Tulsa (5-19) outscored UTEP 31-23 capped by a 14-1 run in the final three minutes of the game to force overtime.

In the extra period the Miners got out to a three point advantage that TU battled back to tie twice, but three clutch free throws for UTEP would give them the final 65-62 advantage.

Tulsa was led by Chanice Scott who recorded her first career double-double with 21 points and 11 rebounds. She was helped by Taleya Mayberry who added 14 points and three steals.

On the night, the Golden Hurricane shot 28-percent from the field, 38-percent from three point and 80-percent from the free throw line.

UTEP was led by Gloria Brown who also managed a double-double with 14 points and 11 boards.

Tulsa returns to action March 9-12 in the Conference USA Championship. The pairings for the conference title games will be released Saturday.
