OKLAHOMA CITY—The Oklahoma City Thunder announced Friday that guard Nate Robinson underwent arthroscopic surgery on this right knee.

The five-foot-nine inch guard first experienced pain and discomfort in his knee following team practice on Monday.

“After consulting with our medical team, we have decided this is the best course of action to resolve the issue with certainty, and have Nate back on the court as we enter into the final stages of the season,” said Thunder Executive Vice President and General Manager Sam Presti.

Robinson is expected to miss 4-6 weeks.

In one game for OKC, Robinson saw eight minutes of game time and scored six points.

The Thunder acquired Robinson on February 24 in a trade that sent Jeff Green and Nenad Krstic to the Boston Celtics in return for Kendrick Perkins and Robinson.

In the eight days Perkins and Robinson have been with the Thunder, only Robinson played and now neither of them will be available for weeks.

Presti announced February 26 that Perkins would miss two to three weeks with a sprained MCL in his knee.

This season Perkins only played in 12 games for the Celtics because he missed the beginning of the season with a torn ACL and has struggled with the MCL injury in the past.

Enter Nazr Mohammad.

Mohammad was also acquired by the Thunder at the trade deadline and since then has not only played, but started.

The six-foot-ten inch center started Wednesday’s game against the Indiana Pacers and in 22 minutes of playing time scored eight points and pulled down seven rebounds and a steal.

After a 2009-10 season with little to no injuries, and high hopes of a run in the playoffs this season, the Thunder need to get rid of the injury bug and get back to business.

OKC will play in Atlanta against the Hawks Friday at 6:30 p.m. CST.
