SIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Oral Roberts showed why it earned its No. 1 seed with an easy 108-79 victory against Western Illinois in the opening round of the Summit League Championship.

Kevi Luper put up her huge numbers with 28 points, and freshman Priscila Cergol might have been the player of the game for ORU with 20 points on 7-of-10 shooting.

Luper jumped out to a quick 18-1 lead in just the first five minutes and never looked back.

The Golden Eagles forced 11 first-half turnovers on their way to a 60-32 lead at halftime.

ORU led by as many as 42 in the second before settling for the 29-point victory.

The 108 points were a Summit League best, topping the previous high of 102 set by Northern Illinois in 1993. It is the sixth time ORU has topped the 100-point mark this year, a program best.

The Golden Eagles also set the Summit League mark for field goals made with 42.

Georgia Jones added 15 points and six assists for ORU, and Jordan Pyle had a double-double with 14 and 11 boards.

In a surprising moment, Oral Roberts guard Jaci Bigham entered the game for two minutes at the end despite the fact that she suffered a torn ACL against Southern Utah three weeks ago.

Bigham was thought to be done for the season, but came in with 2:05 to play. She looked hampered by the injury and moved around slowly on the court, but managed to put up a 3-pointer, which missed.

Oral Roberts will take on the winner of the Oakland – Southern Utah contest on Monday at Noon in the semifinals.
