Westbrook Wins Weekly NBA Honors

OKC Thunder guard Russell Westbrook received his fifth player of the week honor this season.

OKLAHOMA CITY—Oklahoma City Thunder guard Russell Westbrook was named the Western Conference Player of the Week Monday, his fifth such honor of the season.

For the week, Westbrook led the Western Conference in scoring with 27.0 points per game and was third in the in assists with 9.7.

On March 2 against Indiana, he recorded 21 points, nine assists and three steals in the Thunder’s 113-89 route of the Pacers.

Two days later on the road in Atlanta, Westbrook posted 28 points, nine assists, four steals and three rebounds in the 111-104 win.

Finally, Sunday hosting Phoenix led all scorers and recorded a double-double with 32 points and 11 assists to help OKC win in overtime 122-118.

This week’s honor is the fifth of the season for Westbrook and he and the Thunder will test its skills Monday on the road in Memphis at 7 p.m. CST.

Boston’s Paul Pierce was honored as this week’s Eastern Conference player of the week for his efforts in helping the Celtics to four straight wins. In those games he recorded an average of 21.8 points and 8 rebounds.

Other nominees for the Eastern and Western Conference Players of the Week were Boston's Ray Allen, Memphis' Zach Randolph, New Jersey's Kris Humphries and Brook Lopez, Orlando's Dwight Howard and Utah's Al Jefferson.
