Tulsa Talons Fall to Arizona in Home Opener

TULSA, Okla—The Tulsa Talons got off to a slow start in the season opener against the Arizona Rattlers and eventually fell by a final of 69-20.

The Talons didn’t score until there were eight minutes left in the third quarter, on a six-yard touchdown pass from Bobby Reid to T.J. Williams, but by then it was too late.

Tulsa’s mere 20 points are the fewest it has ever scored in a single game in franchise history dating back to 2000 when they played in the af2.

On the flip side, Arizona lit up the scoreboard with their highest point total thus far this season.

Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila completed 15 of his 22 passes, for four touchdowns.

At the half, the Ratllers were up 42-0 and Davila actually didn’t take a single snap in the second quarters.

The rest of Arizona’s seven touchdown passes came from backup quarterback Trevor Harris who completed eight of 13 passes for 104 yards in the final two quarters.

Arizona’s defense had a big game tallying five interceptions, a fumble recovery, and a safety.

Tulsa scored again early in the fourth quarter on a sweep by Jamar Ransom capping an eight-play 38-yard drive. Ransom also scored the two-point conversion with another sweep around the right end.

The final Talons’ score came on a 28-yard pass from backup quarterback Matt Bassuener to T.J. Williams. Bassuener completed four passes for 62 yards.

The Talons fall to 0-3 and will travel to Pittsburgh this Saturday.

Tulsa will return home in three weeks to play another West Division foe in the San Jose SaberCats on April 16th at 7:00.
