STILLWATER, Oklahoma --The Cowgirls’ offense never got going Sunday, costing Oklahoma State a 10- loss at the hands of No. 8 Texas and the overall series loss.
Texas (31-3, 4-0) freshman Rachel Fox (13-1) pitched a complete-game shutout of Oklahoma State (29-9, 1-3), allowing just three hits, giving up just one walk and striking out four batters in the win. Oklahoma State’s Kat Espinosa (15-4) had an uncharacteristic outing, giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits and walked three batters.
The Longhorns wasted no time getting going, taking a 3-0 lead in the top of the first.
Leadoff hitter Taylor Hoagland scored on a throwing error by second base and in the next at-bat, Lexy Bennett homered with one on base to take a three-run lead.
Texas headed into the sixth inning with a five-run lead, and managed to double it to end the game in six.
In the fourth at-bat of the inning, Brejae Washington reached on a fielder’s choice, allowing Raygen Feight to score from third and a take a 6-0 lead. Bennett followed with a single, scoring Hoagland and Taylor Thom to take an eight-run advantage.
Two at-bats later, Nadia Taylor singled to left field to bring Washington home to take a 9-0 lead, with a Karina Scott single in the next at-bat to bring Bennett home and make it a 10-run advantage.
The Cowgirls will try to get back in the win column with a mid-week matchup against Missouri State, before hosting a two-game, weekend series against the Kansas Jayhawks.
