Hector Gomez's 3-Run Triple Earns Win for Drillers

TULSA, Oklahoma – The beginning and end might not have been anything exciting, but the middle was enough for the Drillers.

Tulsa knocked off Corpus Christi 3-2 on Thursday, with all five runs in the game coming in the fifth inning.

Corpus Christi actually racked up 10 hits compared to Tulsa’s five despite the loss.

The first four inning were an old-fashioned pitching battle as Tulsa’s Juan Nicasio and the Hooks’ Xavier Cedeno squared off.

But in the top of the fifth, a solo homer from Federico Hernandez and an RBI from Wladimir Sutil gave the Hooks a 2-0, which seemed commanding at the time, given the way the game had been going.

Hector Gomez responded for Tulsa in the bottom of the inning with a three-RBI triple which was almost an inside-the-park home run. Gomez was thrown out coming around to home, but the damage was already done.

From that point on, it was all defense as the Drillers’ relievers held off any further threats from Corpus Christi.

Nicasio picked up the win for Tulsa (1-0) while Cedeno got the loss for Corpus Christi (0-1).

The teams will continue the series Friday evening at 7:05 p.m. at ONEOK Field.
