TULSA, Oklahoma -- Oral Roberts University signed two high school standouts, D.J. Jackson and Kris Obaseki.

Jackson, a 5-11 guard from Kansas City, Mo. is slated to graduate from Archbishop O’Hara High School, where he earned first-team 3A All-State honors and second-team all-metro honors from the Kansas City Star. He averaged 21 points, six assists, four rebounds and three steals per contest as a senior and shot over 54 percent from the field. His 84 percent free throw average will help the Golden Eagles at the charity line.

“D.J. is a true point guard with shooting guard skills,” said Sutton. “He can run a team and makes players better around him. At the same time he can score, which I always like from a point guard. He’ll be a very strong player physically once he gets in our weight program and begins working out more regularly.”

Obaseki will be arriving to Tulsa from Rosharon, Texas, where he currently attends Manvel High School. He helped lead his team to a record-high 22 wins at Manvel while averaging 10.8 points, 6.6 rebounds and 2.2 blocks per game. Obaseki will be filling the shoes of his father, Mychael, who lettered two seasons on the ORU men’s basketball team (1984-86).

“His upside is extremely high,” said Sutton. “Kris is a very skilled player for his size. He already has impressive perimeter abilities, especially for someone who’s six-foot-nine. But looking at him you know his best basketball is ahead of him. Has a great feel for the game; he’s instinctive. And he just recently turned 18 so he’s still very young. With his height and length and skills, all he’s lacking is strength.”
