Drillers Come Back to Top Corpus Christi Late

The Hooks went up big in the middle of the game, but Tulsa came roaring back in the seventh.

CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas -- Corpus Christi put a five-run inning on the board, but the Drillers made that big frame immaterial with a five-run inning of their own to top the Hooks 9-6 Friday.

Trailing 4-1 in the bottom of the fourth, Corpus Christi (2-6) strung together a few doubles to record their five-run inning. J.D. Martinez lead off with a walk and two batters later, Brandon Barnes doubled to right field to bring him home. David Flores followed with a line-drive double to left field to bring barnes home.

Two at-bats later with Flores and Andrew Simunic on first, Ross Seaton sent one over the right field wall to score three and push the advantage to 6-4.

However, Tulsa (4-4) had some work of its own to do, responding in the bottom of the seventh.

After back-to-back singles to lead off the inning, Darin Holcomb knocked a ground-ball single to center field to bring Hector Gomez home and move Ben Paulsen to second. Wilin Rosario followed with a triple to right field to bring Holcomb and Paulsen to retake the lead 7-6. Two batters later, James Cesario singled to left field to bring Rosario home and make it a two-run advantage.

Tim Wheeler capped off the scoring with a line-drive single to center field to bring James Cesario home to give Tulsa a 9-6 lead.

Stephen Dodson (2-0) came away with a win for the outing, giving up just one hit in his three innings of service for the Drillers. Shane Wolf (0-1) was credited with the loss for the Hooks after allowing five earned runs on seven hits in just 1.2 innings of service.

The series will be decided at 7:05 p.m. Saturday in game three of the series.
