I had a good chat Thursday night with Kevin Wilson during and after the radio coaches show in Norman. Hes always fun. We seem to always get paired together at the Stoops preseason golf tournament so weve gotten to know each other pretty well the last few years. Hes got a big family and his youngest sons name is Toby so hes my favorite.

Kevin laughed about how much attention Roy Finch is getting. He said a running back used to have to get 100 yards in a game to be good. But everybody talks about Finch and hes only got 200 yards in three games. (He actually has 213 yards). I vividly remember Wilson, however, telling me before the season that Finch and fullback Trey Millard will be the freshmen who make the biggest impacts. He can downplay it, but Finch is going to be a star for him if he stays healthy.

Wilson said that former Southmoore star Austin Haywood continues to improve and its just a matter of time before some passes come his way. He said Haywood was the best blocker of his three tight ends in last Saturdays win over Colorado, which is noteworthy because Haywoods strength is supposed to be his pass-catching ability. I think youll see Haywood catch a pass or two at Texas A&M.

Wilson pointed out that Texas A&Ms Defensive Coordinator is Tim DeRuyter who came this year from Air Force and runs the same style defense that OU saw earlier this year when they played the Falcons. Theyll play an umbrella coverage in the back end and try to make the Sooners nickel and dime their way down the field. Theyll often use just a three man rush relying on outstanding defensive end Von Miller to get pressure on Landry Jones. OU didnt exactly move the ball up and down the field on Air Force....just 27 points.

One more hunch from chatting with Kevin...I think well see Trey Franks get a chance to show his speed Saturday. Maybe on a deep ball or maybe on a reverse, but the former track star can fly and I get the impression they may have something up their sleeve with him for the Aggies.
