Jab steps from the Bob Stoops median luncheon

-Players of the game from Baylor: OL Mensik, RB Murray, PK Stevens, DB Trice. Others with outstanding play: TE Hanna, WRs Broyles and Stills, DE Beal and QB Jones.

-Sounds like DT play is Okay, nothing special. DL Walker returned and DL McFarland improving, but otherwise the position will need to play better to slow a potent OSU run game.

-Stoops believes coaching defense in college is much harder than in the pros.

-Complements OSU OL but says they do a good job of getting the ball out of QB Weeden’s hands quickly.

-Likes what the new three-back/diamond/inverted wishbone/”backs” formation can do to a defense. So does Barry Switzer, who diagrams some plays from the formation with me on our interview that you can see right now on Oklahoma Sports.

-Kevin Wilson is impressed with OSU’s defense, including how its young players don’t get down after a bad play. Says the senior dominated front is good but it’s how Bill Young puts it all together and the way they play together that makes them better than their defenses of the past.

-Wilson downplayed the expectation of a shootout, but surely knows in the back of his head that it will likely take a good number of points to walk out of the  Boone a winner.

Check you tomorrow. You’ll enjoy the Switzer interview and my weekly video blog (Vlog) we did after the news conference. Plus John’s one-on-one with Pat Jones is entertaining. At least the part I saw was. If it’s a dud, please call John or Pat. I’ll give you their numbers tomorrow.
