GoDaddy.com is out with its 2011 College Football Early Bird Preview. It’s ridiculously early to have a true grasp of how next season will go. It’s actually too early to know some of the important elements of the bowl games for this year. 1.

1. OU
2. Alabama
3. LSU
4. Oregon
5. Auburn
6. Ohio State
7. Arkansas
8. Missouri
9. Stanford
10. A and M
11. OSU

Just looking at OU and OSU shows how these predictions are completely speculative. For example, the Sooners would need Ryan Broyles to return to make it an elite offense capable of being potent enough to win a national title. Travis Lewis would play an important role in how strong the Sooner defense will be. But a lot of us following it closely don’t know if these guys will head off to the NFL and the fine folks at GoDaddy sure don’t have a clue.

OSU’s situation is even more fragile, because it involves a QB. The Cowboys could certainly live up to their No. 11 ranking IF its two superstars don’t go proQB Brandon Weeden and WR Justin Blackmon. But if one or both of them leave early, a No. 11 ranking is unrealistic, especially if the new offensive coordinator is working with a new QB.

With all due respect to the people making these predictions, if you’re telling me that with all their talent Florida will only be the 28th best team in college football next season, my son’s father has some swampland to sell you not far from Gainesville. I used to live in Tulsa and always pull for the Golden Hurricane, but it’s hard to envision these rankings coming to fruition in 2011: No. 25 Tulsa ahead of No. 28 Florida, No. 30 Penn State and No.31 Texas. Yes, Texas No. 31. Surely not.

I don’t know that I’m ready to predict OU will win the 2011 national championship before Christmas 2010. I’m riding the Alabama bandwagon these days. Saban won’t be out-coached by anyone. And they’ve got great players in the program and are consistently brining in big time hosses from the southeastern part of the country.

But I’m sticking with what I’ve been saying since October. I expect Oklahoma to play for the national title in the next couple of years.

But I like what Bob Stoops is working with. His freshman class is superb and his next class will be one of the best in the country. I believe he would have gotten a couple of the Texas commits if he had any scholarships available. But he’s sticking with what he’s got and these back to back classes, along with a third-year starting QB make it impossible to not be high on what’s in store for OU.

There are a lot of unknown variables looming that will go into how accurate the GoDaddy predictors are. But for now, Sooner fans are hoping that subscriptions to GoDaddy go through the roof after next season’s BCS Championship game. Any group that can predict the national champion 12 months out is pretty good.
