OKLAHOMA CITY – News 9 teamed up with the American Red Cross of Central Oklahoma to raise money for tornado victims, and News 9 viewers overwhelmed us with their generosity.
Volunteers started answering calls in the phone bank at 9:30 a.m. Friday. By the time the telethon ended Friday night, News 9 viewers had donated $61,482 to tornado victims.
Oklahoma corporations also rushed to help the hundreds of people struggling to get back on their feet following the devastating May 24 tornadoes. Chesapeake Energy donated $250,000. Devon Energy pledged $50,000, plus additional contributions if necessary.
American Fidelity and McDonald's each donated $25,000. Frac Tech services contributed $10,000.
When the corporate donations are added to the donations from News 9 viewers, we have raised at least $450,000 for American Red Cross Disaster Relief.
Thank you so much for your generosity!
