TULSA, Oklahoma -- The Tulsa City Council will decide Thursday evening whether to change the name of North Cincinnati Avenue to Martin Luther King Boulevard.

During its meeting Tuesday morning, council members approved putting the item on Thursday's agenda.

Cincinnati from Archer to 66st Street North would be renamed in honor of the civil rights leader.

The ordinance was authored by councilor Jack Henderson.

Read the proposed ordinance.

Another Tulsa roadway also honors Martin Luther King, Jr.  A stretch of I-244 from downtown's IDL east to where state Highway 11 or the Gilcrease Expressway connects to the Interstate is officially named the Martin Luther King Jr. Memorial Expressway.  That stretch of I-244 is commonly known at the Crosstown Expressway.

In addition, a railroad overpass in downtown Tulsa is named after Martin Luther King, Jr. as well.
