COFFEYVILLE, Kansas -- The city of Coffeyville, Kansas as well as a portion of southeast Kansas and northeast Oklahoma was without electricity for almost 3 hours Wednesday morning.
The reason, according to Andrea Chancellor with PSO, a major powerline experienced a fault and failed.
She says the utility was working on a large transmission line in the Neosho-Oologah area and had diverted electricity to another transmission line. The second line failed at around 5:30 a.m.
The city of Coffeyville, buys electricity from GRDA, but uses the PSO line to get the power and when power went out, city officials say they began the process of starting the power generators at the city's power plant.
That process takes several hours.
PSO says they are now inspecting the second transmission line to find out what caused the fault and the resulting outage.
