TULSA, Oklahoma -- News On 6 and the Food Bank are teaming up on a project called Food for Kids. It's designed to help the food bank get food items for the staggering number of children that need help.

An area artist has offered to help by contributing half of his sales to the project.

In a gallery workspace in the Atlas building in downtown, Perry Voge is working an area that looks like the dirt… is really dirt.

"I collect dirt from wherever I go...sometimes I have other people collect it for me," Voge said.

He said he used to struggle with colors for soil in different places, then he got the idea he could use the genuine stuff.

"So instead of washing it down the drain, I went and got some and put it in my painting medium," he said.

He mixes the dirt and he has lots of different kinds with a clear acrylic liquid and paints with it, like on a painting of long ago dirt-track racing at the Tulsa fairgrounds.

He paints from his experience, stories he heard as a child, and things he knows.

"I took and put like a mobile home, a boat, a house. Stuff that would be swirling around," he said.

A painting he did last month--when tornados seemed to be everywhere—gave him an idea. He thought he could turn a painting about one tragedy into help for hungry kids.

So, he's donating half the proceeds of the sale his prints to the Food for Kids project.

"After going through some hard times, I know what it's like to starve and it's not fun," he said.

You can find Perry on the ground floor of the Atlas Building most days. His prints are also at Zieglars at 2nd and Lewis in Tulsa.
