The summer style 411

One of the best things about summer is the more laid-back approach to fashion. There aren't as many layers and everything is just a bit breezier.
But that doesn't mean you should take the beach look to the boardroom or even date night. Here, some key looks and quick tips to looking chic and cool.
Step one: Stop the voices in your head saying, "Seriously, jumpsuits?" We promise you don't have to be Jennifer Lopez to pull them off.
The fact is that a dressy pant is always office-appropriate. Add in the all-in-one aspect and you've got a simple dressing option. But we'd advise staying away from the metallic versions for day.
To dress it up for evening, add high wedge sandals and perhaps a chunky bangle.
This season, skirts are longer and fuller than ever before. The key to making this style work if you're not supermodel height? You just have to own it.
Personalize this style with the tops you choose: Go with a crisp button-down top for day and switch to a more revealing tank in the evening. For a little celebrity inspiration, look no further than boho style queens Kate Bosworth and Rachel Bilson.
When we first saw wide-leg pants strut down the runway at shows like Celine, Derek Lam and Dries van Noten, we were ecstatic at the return of one of our favorite '70s trends. It's all very Jackie O and Ali MacGraw and sexy in a way that doesn't involve flashing a lot of skin.
Try khaki or denim for day and dress it up for evening with a bold statement necklace. And yes, you're going to have to embrace high shoes with this look. Perhaps one of the season's hot "flatforms"?
The easiest trend to embrace this summer is definitely stripes! There's something out there for everyone, and at every price point.
The classic navy nautical stripe has been popping up on tanks and tees around the country, which just so happen to pair nicely with wide-leg pants and maxi skirts. But we also highly suggest trying out some of the colorful striped dresses out there.
Remember how fun and playful Hailee Steinfeld looked in her multicolored dress at the Screen Actors Guild Awards? That could be your go-to look for an outdoor cocktail party this summer.
