SAND SPRINGS, Oklahoma -- Some Sand Springs students got into the spirit of giving this summer, and News On 6 was there for the very special Oklahoma moment.
Dozens of kids lined the block outside Sand Spring Community Services. They formed a human chain and one-by-one passed down the more than 2,000 items they collected in their canned food drive.
"I say it's the heart of Sand Springs community," said Judy Treat of Sand Springs Community Services.
"They're teaching these children, and the lessons that they're learning through this organization are so valuable - not only to them - but for us and for our clients that we serve."
The idea for the canned food drive came during the first week of summer school. Then the kids spent three weeks collecting donations.
