Fallen Marine, Former Tulsa Officer Honored At Ceremony

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Five years later family and friends are still remembering former Corporal and Tulsa Police officer Jared Shoemaker.

The fallen Marine was honored Monday by having his name added to the Carson-Wilson-Rigney-Forrester American Legion Post One.

Shoemaker was killed by a roadside bomb in 2006 while serving in Iraq. Stephen Shoemaker is proud his brother's service and sacrifice hasn't been forgotten.

"We're out here shooting off fireworks and barbecues and having a good time, but I want people to remember the guys that allowed them to do this," Stephen Shoemaker said.

Stephen Shoemaker followed in his brother's military footsteps. He joined the Army Reserve and is scheduled to ship out in August.
