Hot with ISO Storms Possible

Posted: Updated:

Another hot day is expected with a mix of sun and clouds.  Highs near 100 will be common but a few storms will be possible in a few locations.

A storm complex is located across northern Kansas and southern Nebraska this morning moving southeast.  The leading edge of this activity may clip far southeastern Kansas and possibly the Miami, OK area this morning.  Later today a weak outflow boundary from this activity will move across the northern portion of the state and may provide a focus for additional isolated storms today across the northeastern OK vicinity.  Temperatures will be slightly cooler to the north of the boundary, but I'll keep most locations near 100 for the day.

Tomorrow the real deal boundary will slide into the state allowing for some not as hot air combined with northeasterly surface winds.  There remains an outside chance of a morning storm complex rolling across northern OK.  The confidence remains low and therefore the highest pops I will offer will be in the 30% range.

Temperatures Friday will be near or slightly above normal as the mid level ridge of high pressure currently to our west begins migrating eastward.  This ridge will bring triple digit weather back to the region this weekend with a few isolated storm possibilities across far eastern OK and western Arkansas.

The mid level ridge is expected to slide slightly eastward early next week as a weak disturbance from the Gulf moves northwest across Western OK.  This may bring a slight break in the heat Wednesday or Thursday with a few afternoon storms, but this may be more of a wish than a forecast!  This portion of the forecast resides in the day 8 and 9 periods, so we'll have another day or two before placing probabilities and numbers on the maps.
