ROGERS COUNTY – A Rogers County man is dead after a standoff at a home near Foyil Wednesday night.

Rogers County Sheriff Scott Walton said deputies went to the home to serve a protective order against Ronald Still, 57, about 3 p.m. Wednesday.  The protective order was filed by Still's wife, Walton said.

As deputies approached the home, Still indicated he had a weapon and told them not to come any closer.

"He gave them a final warning, 'For the last time while you still can, leave,'" Walton said.

Still then went back inside the home, while deputies retreated to an area of safety, Walton said.

The Cherokee Nation's Task Force, along with the Claremore Police Department and Foyil Fire Department, were called in to assist the Rogers County Sheriff's Office.

Walton said deputies then had a short phone conversation with Still that lasted about ten minutes.

"He ended that conversation by saying he was tired of talking, and that was followed by a long period of silence," said Walton.

Walton said that silence was interrupted by popping noises inside the home.

"We assumed at that time were fireworks," he said.  "A lot of light explosions."

According to Walton, heavier explosions followed.  Deputies then saw smoke and flames coming from the home.

The fire was quickly extinguished.

Deputies found Still's body in a back room of the home.
