BROKEN ARROW, Oklahoma – Edmond's Cameron Meyers was crowned the 2011 OGA State Amateur Champion Thursday at Meadowbrook Country Club.
Meyers defeated Tulsa's Nick Lees 2- up to capture his first such title.
"It's just really exciting, I've always wanted to win this tournament, I've been playing it for eight years," said Meyers. "I've never really gotten past the second round so it was really gratifying," said Meyers.
Meyers, a sophomore golfer at Oklahoma City University, overcame a two-hole deficit to beat Lees. Meyers defeated Oral Roberts' Bryan Boaz 4 and 2 earlier in semifinals play.
On the 17th hole, Meyers birdied the par-5, 507-yard hole, then on the 18th he shot par on the par-4, 458-yard final hole.
Lees finished with a par and a bogey to round out the tournament.
Last season at OCU, Meyers earned honorable-mention NAIA all-American honors. He posted a 73.66 stroke average and finished ninth in the Sooner Athletic Conference Championships while helping the team win the 2010 conference crown.
