I'm happy for Michael Vick

Posted: Updated:

Mike Vick killed dogs. He lost millions. He lost respect. He went to prison. He served his time. He got out. He returned to the NFL. He emerged as a star. He was in the MVP conversation. Now, he's come full circle.

Michael Vick has re-signed as a pitch man for Nike.

It's an amazing turnaround. You may not like him as a man. You may not respect him as a human. But you have to admit that he has rebounded like no athlete we've ever seen before.

When Nike found out about Vick's behavior the first time around, they called his actions abhorrent, inhumane and unacceptable. They were right.

When Vick got busted for killing dogs, he lost millions of dollars in NFL salary and his Nike shoe endorsement deal. The retail giant has apparently seen enough improvement in him off the field to trust him to promote its product again.

I would prefer that the players that kids look up to didn't murder their pets. I think that what Vick did was unfortunate. I think it was misguided and immature.

I also think he's changed. The fact that Nike has taken this step to try to bring him back to the public fold speaks to how he's tried to rearrange the pieces of what once was a shattered life. I think Vick is whole again.

I, for one, am happy for him.
