PAWNEE COUNTY, Oklahoma -- The Oklahoma Highway Patrol is investigating a crash in Pawnee County that killed one and critically injured two others Sunday.

The OHP says a Pawnee County Sheriff Deputy was involved in the deadly crash on Oklahoma Highway 48 just north of the Keystone Lake bridge.

According to an accident report, the deputy was traveling northbound on the highway with lights and sirens on when he swerved to avoid a vehicle and slammed into the drivers side door of an oncoming car.

The driver of that car, 52-year-old Carlton Burgin of Choctaw, was pronounced dead at the scene. Two of his passengers were transported in critical condition to a Tulsa hospital.

After hitting Burgin's car, the Deputy's cruiser spun into another car. No one in that car was hurt. The 24-year-old Deputy was treated and released.

Troopers say everyone involved were wearing seatbelts.
