Parts Of Eastern Oklahoma Under Excessive Heat Warning Until Friday

TULSA, Oklahoma – EMSA issued its 14th heat alert of the summer Monday as extreme temperatures continue to grip Green Country.

Temperatures are expected to reach as high as 106 degrees later this week, with lows only dropping into the 80's.

Parts of Oklahoma are under an excessive heat warning until 7 p.m. Friday. That includes Creek, Okfuskee, Okmulgee, Tulsa, Rogers, Pittsburg, Wagoner, Choctaw, Washington, Osage, Pawnee, Sequoyah, McIntosh, Muskogee, Le Flore and Haskell counties.

EMSA said it has responded to 182 heat calls from June 1, 2011 to July 18, 2011, compared with 101 calls during the same period last year.

EMSA said more and more heat calls are being reported in the evening, as people have spent all day in the heat.

It is reminding everyone to drink plenty of water, wear light colored/loose fitting clothing, and avoid beverages containing caffeine, carbonation, and alcohol.
