Rick Wells, News On 6
TULSA, Oklahoma -- What are the ten year olds you know doing this summer? Going to camp, heading for the pool, or just hanging out?
Rick Wells met a young author whose getting ready for a book signing.
Lincoln Wear is an avid reader, but what he's reading from is his own book.
"It's about Apollo and his Medieval quest to find and defeat the Sand Lord who wants to take over the Isle of Dracojja," he said.
The story carries us through time and across continents, high adventure as the hero chases the evil Sand Lord.
"My favorite genre is fantasy and I've been reading it most of my life," Lincoln said.
The cute little fantasy writer with the big dimples has been writing since he was six or seven years old, he said. In fact he's working on two projects this summer: a sequel to the book and a third unrelated story.
He said he likes to create the story as he goes, and let his imagination carry the story wherever it will, that's the easy part. The hard part is getting it published.
"Back and forth and sending it to the publisher, that is really hard," he said.
But he's beginning to understand the marketing side of this too; creating an audience for book number two.
"It leaves you with a cliff hanger at the end, so you have to read the second book," he said.
When he grows up he says he may study paleontology, but for now he'll continue writing and get ready for fifth grade. As for any advice for others:
"I just want to tell them to follow their dreams, regardless if you're young or old,"
Good advice for all.
Lincoln's book "Apollo's Medieval Adventure" is available on Amazon or on his website. You can also find information there about upcoming book signing and other events.
