Staff Reports,

BIXBY, Oklahoma -- Due to the high demand for water, the city of Bixby has shut down its splash pad facilities.

City officials are asking residents of the Tulsa County community to voluntarily cut back on water usage.

"At this time households and neighborhood associations are being asked by the Bixby Public Works Authority to voluntarily scale back on watering lawns and landscaping to help alleviate the pressure fluctuations. The City of Bixby has shut down the Splash Pad Facilities and limiting irrigation activities to further this effort," said Bea Aamodt, Public Works Director.

Aamodt says high temperatures and high demand is causing pressure fluctuations in the city's water distribution system.

She says while Bixby has water reserves, continued high demand with out voluntary cutbacks, could make things worse in the coming days.

And Creek County Rural Water District #7 is also asking customers to also voluntarily ration water usage. In addition, the water district has asked its customers to NOT water on Sundays.

The rationing does not apply to the watering of livestock or animals.

The rural water district hopes voluntarily cutting back will conserve the water supply and possibly avoid mandatory water rationing, according to a news release.
