JENKS, Oklahoma -- A 22-year-old Jenks man is glad to be alive after being stabbed in his own driveway.

He saw someone breaking into his truck and said, "hey." That's when he was stabbed in the neck and left to die.

Austin loves to hunt and fish, has a good job and just finished school. He was in his own home, minding his own business, when he glanced out the window Thursday morning and saw something weird by his truck.

He stepped outside and a man was in his driver's seat. Austin walked up and said, "hey" and the man stabbed him in the back of the neck, and then ran off.

"After he stabbed me, everything went stiff, numb and I hit the ground and I couldn't move anything," Austin said.

For 20 to 30 minutes, Austin laid on the ground. He could feel the blood running down his neck and he screamed for help, until finally a car drove by and stopped.

He says he nearly gave up, but kept thinking of all those people in his life he didn't want to let down."

"It was a huge emotional roller coaster," he said.

After surgery to insert three screws into Austin's neck, he can now move his feet and his right arm, although he still can't move his left arm.

But, he's so thankful to be alive, he considers his injuries minor and even has a sense of humor when he reads the type of things people post on Facebook.

"When people get on there and say my life sucks, my hair isn't right today. I'm like your hair; I can't even get my hand to my face. It really puts it into perspective," he said.

Despite his upbeat attitude, he wants the suspect caught and so do his parents.

"All I can say is a guy who's a thief, number one and a guy who could stab somebody, number two and leave them laying, is not a person who needs to be on the streets, plain and simple," said Austin's dad Adam.

They believe the thief is staying somewhere around 1st Street in Jenks and they hope someone turns him in before his next victim who is left to die, actually does.

Austin says the man who stabbed him was black, with a shaved head, around 6 feet and 220 pounds.

He is in his late 20's or early 30's and was wearing a short-sleeved blue work shirt with pin stripes on it but no logo.

He had on dark cargo pants and dark tennis shoes. Police believe he stole some other items the same morning.

If you know anything, call Crime Stoppers at 918-596-COPS.
