TULSA, Oklahoma -- A bicyclist was injured after he was hit by a car on 15th Street just west of Sheridan. The collision happened just before noon Thursday.

The cyclist went headfirst into the car's windshield. Tulsa police said his helmet probably saved his life.

The driver of the car, described as an older man, was cited for failure to maintain a safe speed for the conditions.

The bicyclist was taken to a local hospital in serious condition, according to Chris Stevens of EMSA.

Police said the cyclist didn't have visible injuries but did hit his head pretty hard. They were optimistic about his recovery.
