MOUNDS, Oklahoma --Mounds High School has been in a trench this decade when it comes to football. Tony Dix takes over an Eagles program that has not been to the playoff since Bill Clinton was President. But with just six seniors returning Mounds, faces another uphill climb. However Dix does see a potential peak in his program.

“The physical talent is here,” Dix said. “I’ve been at other schools that’s had less talent but the kids stepped out on the field and won. We’ve got physical talent here, it’s just getting the mindset and confidence here in order to win a few games.”

Running back Austin Greenfield will take the lead in Dix’s throwback wishbone offense. After being the feature back in last year’s spread offense, opposing teams can once again expect a steady diet of Greenfield.

“He’s going to get plenty of opportunities in my offense to carry the ball as long as we can keep him healthy,” Dix said.

The offense contributed to defensive woes. The Eagles were tagged for more than 40 points a game in 2008, but it was not all due to the “D”.

“We had so many turnovers on offense that we played defense all night long,” Dix said. “We’re gonna slow things down. We’re gonna keep the ball on offense for a while. I’ve been very pleased with the defense so far.”
