Wayne Bulldogs Reload for Playoff Push

The Wayne Bulldogs return 13 starters from a season ago and look to push past the .500 mark.

WAYNE, Oklahoma -- The Wayne Bulldogs could make some noise this year in district A-5. The bulldogs retain 13 starters from last year. Head coach Brandon Sharp’s biggest offensive threat is senior quarterback Josh Barrett. He combined for more than 2,500 yards running and throwing last season. Barrett’s favorite target, wide receiver Ryan Worley, is back as well. Worley’s tallied more than 700 receiving yards each of the last two seasons.

“He’s a multiple threat quarterback, and just does a real good job,” Sharp said of Barrett. “We’re pretty excited. We think we have some weapons on offense and we can move the ball on anybody.”

The biggest question mark for this team will be on defense. Barrett anchors the secondary which is mostly intact. However the biggest unknown is the defensive line.

“We were young and upfront we were just getting manhandled,” Sharp said. “This year we’ve adjusted and we’re jumping in a 50 front. Our kids have gotten a lot stronger in the off-season. We feel a lot more confident but there’s still a question mark.”

Perhaps the biggest question-mark for the Bulldogs; is how big of a turnaround can they perform after a 2-8 season?
