HEALDTON, Oklahoma – After struggling at the beginning of last season, the Healdton Bulldogs finished with three wins in their final five games. They will be looking to stretch that success into the beginning of this season.
The Bulldogs lost several starters, and as a result will some players to start on both sides of the ball this season. Junior J.J. Montaie returns to lead the secondary, where he recorded five interceptions last season. Montaie will also take over as Healdton’s new quarterback.
Senior Garrett Powell returns as the team’s leading pass rusher after recording 17 sacks last season. He will also start at fullback and will clear lanes for shifty running back Dustin Roper, who will start at linebacker too.
With so many players seeing time on both sides of the ball, the Bulldogs will need younger players to step up and add depth to the roster if they hope to improve on their 3-7 record from last season.
Healdton will begin its season Sept. 4 against Walters, which defeated the Bulldogs 49-6 in the first game last year.
