PAWHUSKA, Oklahoma – The Pawhuska Huskies advanced to the 2A semifinals with a 34-20 win over the Heritage Hall Chargers.

The Huskies set the tone early on special teams when Riley Javellas blocked a punt deep in Heritage Hall territory. Pawhuska capitalized on the next play with a one-yard touchdown run by Stephen Bible.

The Chargers would turn to their sophomore phenom, Barry Sanders Jr., to get back in the game. On the ensuing drive, Sanders caught a screen pass near midfield, cut across the field, and scored. Heritage Hall continued to struggled on special teams, though, and missed the extra point.

After a fumble by Sterling Shepard midway through the second quarter, Pawhuska set up shop deep in Charger territory. Kyle Culver tossed up a pass at the goal line and Javellas made a leaping grab for the score.

Shepard fumbled again on the next Heritage Hall drive, giving the Huskies great field position once again. A few plays later, Justin Garrison punched it on a short touchdown run, making the score 20-6 Pawhuska.

Heritage Hall cut the the Huskies' lead to one score with a hook-and-ladder touchdown right before halftime, but Pawhuska held strong in the second half and went on to win.

The Huskies advance to face district rival Lincoln Christian in the state semifinals. Earlier this season, Lincoln Christian defeated Pawhuska 48-0 on its way to the district crown.

Heritage Hall finishes the season at 8-5.
