KIEFER, Oklahoma – In a game featuring two offensive juggernauts, it was the Kiefer defense that made the difference as the Trojans kept Depew out of the endzone in a 20-0 shutout.

Both squads came in averaging over 40 points per game, but stout defense and costly penalties led to a scoreless first half.

The Trojans threatened to get on the board in the second quarter. On 3rd-and-long, Tyler Deshazo kept the drive alive by making a leaping grab near midfield.

A few plays later, Sergio Lozoya took a screen pass inside the Hornet 5-yard line. But, a penalty for illegal formation negated the play and the Trojans were forced to punt.

Depew put together a drive before the break and reached Trojan territory with under one minute remaining. Robert Lame’s desperation heave as time expired was nowhere near its intended target and the two teams went into the break scoreless.

On the first drive of the second half, the Hornets faked a punt in their own territory. Roy Lewis got a good look at an open receiver, but overthrew everyone.

The Trojans took over with great field position and capitalized a few players later when Johnathan Mefford found a wide open Lozoya in the endzone. The touchdown was all Kiefer needed as they held the Hornets off the scoreboard.

Kiefer travels to Summit Christian next week, while Depew tries to get back on track against Oaks Mission.
