SHAWNEE, Oklahoma – The Putnam City West Patriots broke a 28-game winless streak Friday with a 30-21 victory over the Shawnee Wolves.

The Patriots (1-4, 1-2) were three days from reaching the three-year anniversary of their last win, a 35-0 victory over U.S. Grant. Friday’s contest also marked the most points P.C. West scored since that same game.

P.C. West held off a late comeback attempt by Shawnee (2-4, 0-3) and consistently responded every time the Wolves seemed poised to take the lead.

Twice in the second half, Shawnee cut things to a one-possession game, and both times the Patriots scored a touchdown to extend the lead. The second time came in the fourth quarter, when West put the nail in the coffin and sealed the win.

Friday’s outcome ruined Shawnee’s homecoming and extended its losing streak to three games. The Wolves will try to recover next week against Muskogee (3-3, 1-2).

P.C. West’s road will get much tougher, as the Patriots will face one of the state’s biggest surprises in undefeated Norman (6-0, 3-0).
