OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Heritage Hall Chargers continued their dominant run through district play with a 56-14 win over the Newcastle Racers Friday.

The Chargers (6-0, 3-0) got on the board on their first play from scrimmage. Star running back Barry Sanders took the handoff and went 75 yards for the score to take a 7-0 lead.

Despite the hot start from Sanders, substitute quarterback/slot receiver Sterling Sheppard proved to be the player of the game.

On the Racers’ next possession, Sheppard intercepted Newcastle (4-2, 2-1) quarterback Blake Woodard and returned it 40 yards for the score to take a 14-0 lead. He then followed with 12-yard reception that he pitched to Shaun Tkach that resulted in a touchdown to extend the lead to 21-0.

Sheppard’s next first-quarter score was a 62-yard punt return for a touchdown to take a 21-0 advantage in the first quarter. Sheppard then finished the quarter with a 20-yard touchdown to push the lead to 35 points.

Early in the second quarter, the Racers got on the board with a five-yard touchdown pass from Woodward to Jimmy McDade to close to 35-7.

Sheppard added a 63-yard touchdown on Heritage Hall’s next possession to take the lead up to 42-7.

Sanders got his as well, adding a 70-yard touchdown run with three minutes left in the second quarter to push the Chargers’ lead to 42 points, but Sheppard wouldn’t be outdone.

With 15 seconds left in the half, Sheppard recorded his second pick-six of the day – this one a 100-yard score – to score the Chargers’ final touchdown of the night.

Sanders finished the first half with 162 yards on six carries and two touchdowns, while Sheppard scored on five of the six times he touched the ball.

The Chargers will try to continue their roll at home against the John Marshall Bears, while Newcastle will try to rebound at home against NOAH.
