Keys Beats Henryetta to win Fifth Straight Game

The Keys Cougars started the 2010 football season a little slowly, but since then have won their last five games in a row, most recently winning 28-22 on the road in Henryetta, which locked them into second place in district 3A-7.

Henryetta got the ball first and threatened to score but then turned the ball over on downs at the 20 yard line. A Keys punt was blocked, ending a quarter that was well played, if not high in scoring.

The Knights threw an interception early in the second quarter, then junior quarterback Jake Phillips threw a 48 yard touchdown pass to junior receiver Colten Doulliard with 10:21 left in the quarter. Sophomore kicker J.J. Ozturk’s extra point was good.

Four minutes later, Doulliard increased the lead with a six yard touchdown run, Ozturk made the extra point. The Cougars lost the football, but Phillips fired a 19 yard touchdown pass to junior wide receiver Cameron Parks with 11 seconds to go until halftime, Ozturk’s extra point made the halftime score Keys 21, Henryetta 0.

The third quarter was all Henryetta. The Cougar lead shrank to 21-14 with 12 minutes to play after a touchdown run from two yards out and another from one yard out were tallied by the home squad.

After throwing a pick, Keys recovered a fumble and Ozturk missed a 22 yard field goal. The Cougars gained a second chance as a roughing the kicker penalty was called.

Doulliard scored from three yards away with 4:27 to go in the game, Ozturk made yet another extra point.

Henryetta rushed by the Keys defense for a 10 yard score. They added a two point conversion and their offense had one final drive to steal the game, but Keys’ defense stopped the Knights 28-22.

Phillips was 14-21 passing for 209 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. He also had -21 rushing yards in seven tries.

Doulliard carried the ball 24 times, gaining 122 yards and two touchdowns, while Cody Cole had nine yards with two carries.

Keys (6-3, 4-1) plays the Checotah Wildcats (6-3, 3-2) Friday Nov. 5 at 7:30 p. m. The Wildcats upset Beggs last week 21-20.
