OKLAHOMA CITY – Class B certainly has some powerhouse teams heading into the first round of the Oklahoma state playoffs, but only one can come out on top.

Oklahoma Sports and CoachesAid.com ranked the top five teams in Class B following the regular season.

1.) Dewar– With only a few exceptions, the Dewar Dragons have looked nearly flawless through the regular season. Giving up 30 points at Gans might have been the low point for the Dragons during the season, but it doesn’t matter much when your team can still win 57-30. They shut out three teams in the regular season, and allowed eight points or less in six games. To top it off, Dewar has plenty of momentum heading into the playoffs, for it is coming off an impressive 60-14 blowout of Wetumka.

2.) Kiefer - The Kiefer Trojans lost by four points at Caddo to start the season, which was not a “bad” loss by any means. But what happened after that proved why Kiefer is undoubtedly one of the top couple of teams in the class. The Trojans gave up 12 points for the entire rest of the season. They outscored their opponents 383-12 through the final nine games. Those statistics are reason enough for no team to want to face Kiefer in the playoffs. Unfortunately, someone has to take that task and in this case it will be the Gans Grizzlies, who are certainly no pushover.

3.) Davenport– Davenport also falls along the same lines as Kiefer in that they suffered a tough loss to start the season but bounced back in impressive fashion. The Bulldogs got blown out against Dewar 41-14 to open the season but rattled off nine straight afterward. Davenport pulled off solid wins against Fox and Alex in weeks three and four, and finished the season with shutouts in three of its final four games. The Bulldogs pulled off a decent first round draw in Seiling, who went just 5-5 overall this year.

4.) Cherokee– The Chiefs might not have played the elite opponents that the other teams on this list have faced, but it’s impossible to ignore a 10-0 record. And several wins – such as a twenty point victory over Laverne and a 54-6 blowout of Pond-Creek Hunter – are nothing to scoff at. As the playoffs roll on – assuming that Cherokee advances – it should be one of the more interesting teams to watch to see if the Chiefs’ level of play can match their perfect record.

5.) Laverne – The Tigers have the potential to surprise some teams in this year’s playoffs. That is, if a 9-1 team is technically capable of surprising anyone. Laverne might be overshadowed by Cherokee, who finished undefeated and pushed the Tigers down to second in the division. But Laverne’s only loss was to that same Cherokee team. Outside of that game, the Tigers don’t exactly have the best “strength of schedule” but it’s hard to argue with their results. Their first round matchup will really put them to the test, however, as they must take on a tough Alex team in order to advance.
