With a host of talented teams in Class C, the playoffs race will be interesting from the very start.

Below are the top games to watch in the first round of playoffs. Although all of the games in this class have a level of uncertainty or unpredictability, these games, in no particular order, have the highest stakes in round one.

Timberlake at Midway: These two teams enter the playoffs with matching 8-2 season records. Timberlake is the defending champion from last year and their third place district finish has left the Tigers hungry for more. Both these teams actually tallied more district points than higher finishing teams in the district. Midway’s only loss was by a mere two points to Maud in week eight. Timberlake also lost by two points in week five to Covington-Douglas and their only other loss was also in week eight at Deer Creek.

Sharon-Mutual at Temple: Like many teams in this class, only one loss separates these two teams. This game has the potential to be one of the closest battles in round one. Sharon-Mutual carries two losses on the season, but has momentum as they have won four straight games and have outscored those last four opponents by a total of 201 to 42. Meanwhile, Temple enters the playoffs with one week six 6-32 loss to Tipton. Besides that game, the minimum points the Tigers scored this season was 42. Look for another close game with big implications.

Webbers Falls at Covington-Douglas: At first glance it could seem like an obvious win for Covington-Douglas, but the Warriors of Webbers Falls have a bit of a chip on their shoulder after losing the final two games of the regular season. The Wildcats also lost their only game on the season in week 10 to Deer Creek-Lamont. I foresee an intense battle to get the game going, making it a good game to watch.

Ryan at Shattuck: Last but certainly not least, this game has big expectations resting on both teams. Shattuck, who has won seven of the last eight state titles in Class C lost in the second round last year. Their only loss of the season came in a 30-12 loss at Forgan when they scored their least amount of points all season. On the flip side, the Ryan Cowboys, led by senior running back Trevor Bettis, played in the Class B semifinals last year and despite losing their final two games of the regular season they look for a big push entering round one. This should be a game with a lot of points scored.
