OKLAHOMA CITY -- The Wildcats return nine seniors this year, including five starters and are working toward their third-straight Northeast Six Conference title.

It’s not going to be an easy feat though, as most of the Wildcats’ opponents also boasting similar experience on their rosters.

“Just within our conference, almost every team is about that classification this year,” said head coach Brandon Heath. “It’s kind of been the same kids we’ve been battling every year.”

Their competition does prepare the Salina squad for the playoffs though, having seen some of the Class 3A’s best players throughout their regular season. This year, they’ll be ready for their biggest rival--Locus Grove.

The Pirates are less than eight miles away, so many of the Wildcats’ players play against their rivals in the summer months. It’s a rivalry both teams will be pumped up for once the season tips off.
