LAWTON, Oklahoma -- For Lawton senior Kyle Fultz, he’s playing for more than just a Gold Ball.

The “RF” stickers on the back of his and his teammates’ helmets can attest to that.

On October 11th while at a convention, Renee Fultz, Kyle’s mother, collapsed and passed away while in the care of EMTs. Many people would have dropped everything in such a crisis.

Fultz was on the practice field later that day, with the belief that it was what his mother would have wished.

"We told him if you need to take a couple of days we understand fully that Friday night if he wanted to play he was going to be out there for the first snap and stay out there all he wanted to play,” Lawton head coach Randy Breeze said. “He said ‘No coach I don't want to miss a practice. My mother would not want me to miss a practice and the team needs me and I'm going to be there for the team. That's what my mother would want.’”

Since her passing, the senior tight end hasn’t missed a practice and has dedicated his season to the memory of his mother.

A cause his teammates also adopted.

“If you look at our helmets it says RF. That stands for Renee Fultz,” senior linebacker Jabral Johnson. “Everything we do any good plays we make you might see us wave up to the sky that's us saying ‘That's for Renee Fultz.’”

And with the memory of Renee Fultz on their minds and her initials marked on the back of their helmets, the Wolverines advanced to the Class 6A semifinals for the first time in a decade.
