TULSA, Oklahoma – One night after barely escaping a fourth quarter push from Will Rogers, the Booker T. Washington girls basketball team needed a pair of clutch free throws in the final seconds to put away Memorial.

Amari Jones hit two free throws with 1.3 seconds to go to push the Hornets’ lead to four points, and Booker T. survived the Chargers’ comeback, 41-37. Jones and Rachel Block both scored 11 points to lead the Hornets.

Trailing by one point with 40 seconds to play, Memorial chose not to foul on the inbounds pass. They forced a trap in the corner and the Hornets threw the ball away under the hoop. Savanah Carter intercepted the ball and was fouled.

Carter went to the free throw line for a 1-and-1 try, and missed her first shot. Booker T. got the ball back and hit one free throw after being fouled.

Carter caught a long inbounds pass on the Memorial’s next possession and kicked it out to a wide open Juanita Nails. She fired, but hit the backboard and the Hornets iced the game with free throws.

Melissa Alexander scored 11 points to lead the Chargers.
