The Preston Festival annually brings some of the best baseball talent in the state to one complex, and this year was no exception.

Henryetta took the field twice in the Saturday session, burying the Wilburton Diggers 13-0 and later pounding the Kiefer Trojans 12-4. The two games went a combined 8 1/2 innings.

The first game started off with a free ride walk for center fielder Caul Warlow. He later scored when Tyler Brown rapped out a double.

For Wilburton, all they could manage off of pitcher Seba Delocal was a single.

Henryetta got the bases loaded in the second, but couldn’t score, and the Diggers quickly were sent back to the field.

Brown and second baseman Connor Upshaw both crossed home plate in the third, and Wilburton put themselves out after getting runners on at first and second.

The fourth was a big inning. Five Knights got hits, and it turned into four more runs, extending the Henryetta lead to 7-0.

Three Wilburton batters came up and three batters were turned away. A new pitcher came up in the fifth, he was greeted warmly. Five hits, three walks and a hit batter added up to six runs,

Wilburton couldn’t do the impossible, and the Knights won in a run-ruled five inning game by a 13-0 score.

After about a four hour wait, the tail end of the day’s play came against Kiefer, it didn’t start out that well for the Knights.

An RBI single and a steal of home plate scored two runs in Kiefer’s first swing of the bat, but Henryetta answered the challenge.

First baseman Mason Kellett launched a two run shot out of the park, and Upshaw scored Brown, giving the Knights a 3-2 edge. The Trojans collapsed at the plate, and their defense also fell apart.

There were twelve batters, four hits, including a Brown triple and Warlow home run, three free passes and two hit batters in the third inning, and when Kiefer finally came up to hit again, they were down 12-2.

They got two more runs on sacrifice plays, Henryetta nearly tacked on even more runs, but it wound up a 12-4 victory in 4 1/2 innings. The Knights swiped a total of 15 bases.

Thursday thorough Saturday the Knights play in the Rattan Tournament, and Tuesday, weather permitting, the Checotah Wildcats will visit at 4:30 p.m.
