Tulsa Red Cross Assists Firefighters, Fire Victims

UNDATED -- Tulsa Red Cross has responded to several house and grass fires, according to spokesperson Donita Quesnel.

They are en route Sunday afternoon to the Keystone area where firefighters are once again battling wildfires that have been blazing off and on since Friday. The Red Cross will provide canteen services including drinks and snacks.

Volunteers also helped two families whose homes have been damaged by fire. A family of two in the 4100 block of South Birch Place in Broken Arrow received cash for food and clothing Sunday. On Saturday, two other people who live in the 33000 block of West 8th Street in Mannford received financial help for food, clothing, shoes and lodging after a structure fire.

"The long-running extreme temperatures and large number of grass fires this summer have increased the number of calls for Red Cross assistance to families devastated by home fires, and for Red Cross canteen services to support area firefighters, police departments and other emergency responders," Quesnel said.

"Red Cross resources have been stressed, and financial donations are needed to support our ongoing disaster and home-fire response."
