Day 8: Ex-Cons Testify In Tulsa Police Corruption Trial

TULSA, Oklahoma -- At least eight witnesses took the stand Wednesday in the corruption trial of Tulsa police officers Jeff Henderson and Bill Yelton.

More witnesses testify that officers Bill Yelton and Jeff Henderson used fake informants to get search warrants, stole money and planted drugs during search warrants.

Some of the witnesses again had criminal histories, but two of them did not.

One witness, an ex-con, testified police found marijuana, guns and $18,000 in cash at his home during a search warrant. He says only half the money was turned in by police.

Another witness, also an ex-con, testified $65,000 from him, but says it was not Henderson who took it.

He admitted on cross examination, that he told the grand jury the cops stole $65,000 from his friend, not him.

He also admitted he currently has about $60,000 worth of bills.

A couple of witnesses with no prior felony convictions testified they thought the officers planted drugs at search warrants.

A man who claimed officers didn't turn in all the marijuana found at his house, admitted he fled the country but came back, hoping to become a millionaire by suing the city of Tulsa. He says Officers Henderson and Yelton arrested his wife, and she was later deported.

Many people who testified had their cases dismissed.

A former jail inmate testified Yelton asked him to beat up or take out a fed who was also in the jail who was talking in relation to this case.

Prosecutors still have about 20 witnesses yet to be called on their list.
