OWASSO, Oklahoma – Two words describe the Owasso Rams this season: hungry and relentless.

Part of the team's hunger comes from what ended their season last year, a 75-28 beating from 6A opponent Jenks in the state semi-finals.

"That makes this team more hungry," said head coach Bill Patterson. "Obviously their goal is to go one step further."

"All I remember is 75-28 and that's not happening again this year," said Owasso tackle Lance Kloker.

With practices and preparation for the upcoming season underway, Coach Patterson is optimistic about the upcoming year.

"We think that offensively we've got a chance to be pretty explosive," said Patterson. "Defensively we feel really good with our linebackers and secondary."

"We're playing good," said linebacker Ty McKenzie. "Relentless is what we need to be."

Relentless is a key word for the Rams when it comes to their tough schedule.

Out of the team's first six games of the season this year, five of those games are against playoff teams from last year.

"A lot of people ask me why do you play that schedule, said Patterson. "It answers a lot of questions; we're one of the largest schools in the state, why shouldn't we play those people."

The players also see the tough schedule as a big opportunity.

"We appreciate the competition, we're excited for it and we're ready to compete," said Kloker.

"(It's a) tough schedule, its 6A football," said McKenzie "It's the best competition around, so we'll play hard."

Owasso will kick off the season Sept. 2 at Broken Arrow.
