STILLWATER, Oklahoma -- For the second consecutive year, the Oklahoma State Cowboys are brining a new offense to the table. Last season under Dana Holgorsen, OSU defied expectations – being picked to finish fifth in the Big 12 South – and had the most successful season in school history.

After running 125 plays in a full-team scrimmage Saturday to finish fall camp, head coach Mike Gundy seems pleased with the progress his team has made installing the new offense.

"I think we're every bit as far along as we were at this time last year," Gundy said. "Justin Blackmon and Jeremy Smith and Levy Adcock and Grant Garner and those key players that lead the football team, they're practicing extremely hard. Because of that they're pretty far along."

The defense shined in the practice, playing a part in the offense's admittedly slow start. Reigning Biletnikoff Award winner Justin Blackmon applauded the defense's performance in the full-team scrimmage.

"The defense was real good. They were real physical, hitting and flying around," Justin Blackmon said. "The offense eventually picked it up and overall, it went well for us as a team and we're getting better on both sides of the field."

Despite having the big names returning to the squad, it was some of the highlights from the 2011 recruiting class that caught the coaches' eyes as they ended fall camp.

"We continue to have guys that start to show up," Gundy said. "I thought Ryan Simmons played well as a freshman. I thought Herschel Sims and Desmond Roland - freshmen running backs - both made some plays."

With fall camp coming to a close, Oklahoma State now has two weeks to prepare for its season-opening matchup against the Louisiana-Lafayette Ragin' Cajuns Sept. 3.
