TULSA, Oklahoma -- The driver of an apparently stolen minivan led Tulsa police on a chase overnight Sunday before jumping from the moving vehicle.
A Tulsa police officer first spotted the speeding van going eastbound on U.S. Highway 11. The van exited the highway at Lewis, going northbound.
When the officer tried to stop the van, the driver at first pulled over then took off again into a neighborhood off Xanthus Place.
The officer saw what he thought was a passenger bail out of the van while it was still moving. He continued to follow the minivan which left the roadway and wrecked about a block later.
When the officer approached the van, there was no one inside. He discovered the window of the van was broken and the steering column had been popped.
Police searched the area for the driver who had jumped from the vehicle but were unable to locate him.
