Stillwater Man Dies Following Single-Car Wreck

OKLAHOMA CITY -- A Stillwater man has died of injuries he received in single-car accident earlier this month. The Oklahoma Highway Patrol reported Thursday that Howard Stephen Ricketts died on August 7, 2011.

The 20-year-old Ricketts was driving a Dodge Dakota pickup at a high rate of speed eastbound on McElroy just outside Stillwater when troopers say he failed to stop for a stop sign. The roadway went from asphalt to gravel, and Ricketts lost control of the pickup which rolled three times after striking a bar ditch.

The young man was ejected from the vehicle. The wreck took place August 3, and Ricketts had been taken to OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City in critical condition.
