Thousands Walk To End Alzheimer's In Tulsa

TULSA, Oklahoma -- Thousands of participants joined the Walk To End Alzheimer's Saturday in Tulsa. Mark Fried, President and CEO of the Oklahoma Chapter of the Alzheimer's Association, said the event is both a fund raiser and a mission.

"We rally together today so that we can increase the awareness of this disease, so that people understand what kind of a public health issue it really is," Fried said.

Funds raised in the event go to research and to underwrite the services provided free of charge to families in the Tulsa area.

The group also used a "Promise Garden" where paper flowers represented different aspects of the disease, Fried said, from the loss of a loved one to support for caregivers.

Runners also participated in the event in the second annual Race to End Alzheimer's.
